History

The Dublin Welsh Male Voice Choir was formed in the 1960s by a small number of Welshmen who had settled in Dublin. Over the years, many Irishmen (and even a few Scots, English and a Dutchman) have combined to form the present choir, which has retained a unique and authentically Welsh choral sound and repertoire - with Irish songs included for good measure.

The choir has performed and competed in Ireland and abroad and has won prizes at choral competitions in Killarney, Arklow, Navan and Galway. It has performed at the Miners Eisteddfod in Porthcawl and in 1987 it was the first Irish choir chosen to participate in the Night of 1000 Male Voices at the Royal Albert Hall. More recently it participated in the World Choir events in Cardiff and Dublin - but the outstanding highlight for every member was the 1994 tour of Georgia USA, culminating in a spectacular concert in the Atlanta Dome.

Keith Young has directed our musical activities for more than twenty of its thirty-odd years.

Choir appearances include many radio and television performances such as The Late-Late Show, Live at 3 and programmes for BBC and S4C. Some years ago we provided a choral background for a recording by the much-lamented Dermot Morgan.

Practice makes perfect

The Dublin Welsh Choir has sung and entertained at many prestigious receptions and conference events for both government and corporate clients. We perform at venues throughout Ireland and we are proud to have raised in excess of €500,000 for a variety of deserving causes.
